Physicians licensed with the College must renew their medical licence annually. Annual licence renewal is mandated by the province's Medical Act and Medical Practitioners Regulations.
Physicians who practise medicine under a corporation in which they are listed as a Medical Director, are also required to renew their corporate permit annually.
If you are permanently or temporarily closing a practice you must comply with a number of statutory and regulatory requirements. For more information, please contact the College at: firstname.lastname@example.org.

When do I renew my licence?

If you have not renewed your licence by December 31, 2017 your licence will expire.
Physicians cannot legally practise medicine under an expired licence. This also means that a physician will be at risk of losing hospital privileges and of losing payments through insurers such as MSI. To restore a licence after this date, physicians must contact the College.

How do I renew my licence?
1. Please visit the College’s website at www.cpsns.ns.ca and click on Member Services in the top right corner of the screen.

4. Follow the instructions for completing your licence renewal and payment of fees.
If you do not have access to a computer to submit your renewal, the College can provide secure computer access and assistance at its offices between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from November 1 to December 22, 2017.

How do I obtain a confirmation of annual licence renewal and receipt?
Upon approval of your application and receipt of your payment you will receive a confirmation email from the College. This email will include confirmation of renewal and your receipt.
If you require a wallet size licence card please send an e-mail to: email@example.com with the subject line “Registration Card” and include your name and registration number in the body of the e-mail.
A card will be sent to the “preferred address” on file with the College.

Can I renew my licence and my corporation permit at the same time?
Yes. Both renewals can be completed one during the same session.
What if I don’t need a Nova Scotia licence for 2018?
If you plan to discontinue your College licence effective January 1, 2018, please notify the College in writing or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org before January 1, 2018.
