College receives prestigious national quality award
Halifax, August 8, 2003 – The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is one of three Canadian organizations to receive the 2003 Canada Award for Excellence (CAE), the National Quality Institute (NQI) announced today.
"This award is a significant recognition of the product and service quality improvements the College has made since the late 1990s," said Dr. William Lowe, President. "The College has made great strides in its responsiveness to stakeholders, operational efficiency, and strategic preparedness, and we are delighted that the NQI believes these successes deserve national recognition."
The two other 2003 CAE award winners are Statistics Canada and Envision Canada, the third-largest credit union in the country.
"Representing the public, private and health care sectors, these organizations have successfully applied principles of excellence and demonstrated the results that come from pursuing improvement based on quality and a healthy workplace," said Cameron Hyde, Chairman of the National Quality Institute and Senior Vice President and General Manager, Xerox Corporation, North American Agent Operations.
Canada Awards for Excellence is NQI's annual awards program that recognizes Canadian organizations that, through a commitment to innovation, productivity, healthy workplace and ethics, have demonstrated sustainable measures of continuous improvement. Winning organizations have reported increased efficiency, expanding market share, enhanced international competitiveness and higher employee retention and productivity.
The awards will be presented at the 2003 Excellence Summit during a gala CAE luncheon celebrating the winning organizations and their employees on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto.
