College Receives Major
National Healthy Workplace Award

Halifax September 20, 2006 The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is one of two Canadian organizations to receive the 2006 Canada Award for Excellence Healthy Workplace Award Gold Trophy from the National Quality Institute.

“The College works hard to encourage the physical, mental and emotional well-being of its employees,” said Dr. Rex Dunn, College President. “Our experience shows that a healthy workplace pays tangible dividends, and we strongly encourage all organizations to make health and wellness part of their business plans.”

The College's healthy workplace program includes progressive human resource policies; fitness allowances; nutrition, stress management, and ergonomics training; onsite health monitoring and comprehensive healthcare benefits.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for physicians in the province. Governed by a Council of 15 elected and appointed physicians and public members, the College employs 21 people at its Halifax office.

The Healthy Workplace Award, presented by Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life is based on the Canadian Healthy Workplace Criteria developed by NQI in partnership with Health Canada and in association with professionals from the health and wellness sector. The Awards will be presented in Toronto on October 24.

The 2006 Gold Trophy will also be awarded to Pfizer Consumer Healthcare of Markham, Ontario. Calian Technologies of Ottawa received the 2006 Silver Trophy.
