To practise medicine in the province of Nova Scotia a medical licence issued by the College is required. This medical licence must be renewed each year with the College.
All licensed physicians practising medicine in the province of Nova Scotia are expected to abide by the College’s Professional Standards and Guidelines.
If you practise medicine under a corporation in which you are listed as a Medical Director, a corporate permit is required. This permit must be renewed annually. You can renew and pay for your corporate permit online.
A Certificate of Professional Conduct verifies that a physician is licensed or has been licensed with the College, and his or her standing with the College.
Medical regulatory authorities and health care organizations in other jurisdictions require a Certificate of Standing or Professional Conduct when a physician applies for a licence.

The National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) is a group of provincial and national organizations which came together to develop a pan-Canadian assessment standard for international medical graduates (IMGs) seeking a licence to practise medicine in Canada. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia participated in this collaboration.
